Rodney was the first coach for Hawthorn Judo Club, starting with a term holiday program in 1969.Starting his Judo in 1963 he is now a 5th Dan having, over the years, achieved an international referee licence, international kata judge licence, level 2 coach licence, and served the OJU as assistant secretary and referee commissioner; the JFA as record secretary and referee commissioner; and the JVI as referee commissioner, kata commissioner and secretary (currently in his 20th year). Rod is also head coach of the Balwyn Judo Club.
