Hawthorn Judo Bag Medals
On the 3rd May 2015 the Hawthorn Judo team had a strong showing and brought home a bag of Medals.
The action kicked off with Mathew and Alex in the U9’s. Mathew made short work of his group on way to a Gold medal, and Alex came up against a couple of very tough opponents. In the end in Alex’s group the all beat each other but on count back Alex under up with the Bronze even though he had beaten the eventual winner. It was good tough judo from the youngsters.
The U12 section was very well attended with huge groups across 6 different wight divisions. For Hawthorn we had Duc competing at his first competition and Kei, Zoltan and Ryan all in the same division, and finally Charlotte competing in the weight division above them. Duc was extremely tough beating two opponents on his way to a silver medal. Charlotte quickly dispatched all of her category with 3 wins via ippon for Gold. In the hotly contested division with 3 Hawthorn judoka together Kei came away with the Gold with some text book seoi nage’s, Zoltan won twice for a bronze and Ryan showed he has a lot of potential but unfortunately didn’t get a medal on this occasion.
In the Senior Women Ana represented Hawthorn and won silver and in the Senior Men both Simon and Peter competed in their first JVI event. Simon ran into a whole series of black and brown belts but gained some valuable experience and impressed a few of the referee’s, and Peter fought extremely well to win a Silver medal.
The next JVI event will be the regional tournament held at Lilydale Judo club in July.
